1 Chronicles 10; Psalm 2
As I am reading 1 Chronicles the death of Saul came up in Chapter 10. The chapter delineates how the Philistines fought against Israel. Israel fled in defeat. The battle became fierce against Saul, and he was wounded. Saul did not want to fall into the hands of The Philistines so he fell on his own sword. That is the story shortened. His 3 sons died in this battle as well.
As you read on God reveals through Ezra, the writer of Chronicles that the events of Saul’s death were a DIVINE act. In God’s desire for justice he offers opportunity for repentance, to show mercy for our sin.
Saul did not turn from his constant sinning against God. God used the hands of man to bring Justice. The Scripture continues to say, “ Saul died for his unfaithfulness which he had committed against the LORD, because he did not keep the word of the LORD...”.
Saul’s continued charges are listed. The point, and I’ve been waxing eloquent on this reality. God is a JUST GOD! He sees injustice, he sees when our system is broke. He knows each case. He knows the truth of each man’s heart. His hand is not shortened.
Ultimately God is angry at sin; Yet, offers Grace and desires, repentance so he may show Mercy.
But he brings justice. Maybe not the way we think, but He knows the right and wrong of each situation. Opinions have no limits and sides are picked. As humans we can go on and on about almost everything. Even the things our knowledge is limited in.
But I pick the side of The Lord, just like David did. If you read David’s reaction to Saul’s death he chose to honor the man of God and let God point the fingers and execute Justice in His way. He’s not limited to our chaotic system. Psalm 2 tells us he laughs at our system.
Father, there is such chaos in our world. You hold true justice and that’s where my opinion will rest.
