Psalm 5:9-10 “For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is destruction; their throat is an open tomb; they flatter with their tongue. Pronounce them guilty, O God! Let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgression, for they rebelled against You.”
Brothers and Sisters, like many of you I am devastated. This political system has been revealed, a wicked, evil people are over our Country. This revelation became clear over the last 14 years, but more so the last 4. In our humanity we ask, “Lord, you see this? Why aren’t you acting?”
We look for actions from God in order for him to prove he cares. We look to have our troubled hearts assuaged. We look from one side of His character. We look to be vindicated
in what we know has been wrong, evil, even vile.
This passage offers us what we feel we deserve. We want God to get them. This is appropriate because God must bring about justice in order to be holy.
But what’s the other side of this coin? The side that might make us cringe when we start naming those who seem the vilest to us. That side is God’s long suffering. He does not want anyone to perish. He waits! He offers patience. He sends his servants into the evil den of those who mock, harass, spit, and even kill us. The system doesn’t vindicate us. Those running it find reasons to condemn us.
Don’t become weary in well doing. That command and encouragement means more today than ever before. Continue to fight the good fight. Pray these prayers of imprecation, because these prayers are God’s intent. Just when he’s ready. This doesn’t happen in our time. That can be exhausting. We may even become angry and bitter. Oops! Your heart is showing and it isn’t how God looks. “Be angry and DO NOT sin.”
In the meantime we get to develop patience. We must learn to love those who may hate us. We must become prayer warriors. We must look like God, through the example of His Son. Maybe our example will cause even one to repent.
Remember these imprecatory passages are there to remind us God’s patience and
long-suffering will come to an end. That’s not when we gloat. No, the opposite is actually the reality. When he acts on these truths that’s when we remember we are held accountable for our obedience while we waited.
