Too bad, so many Christians ignore St. Patrick's day. We celebrate those we love on Valentine. Shortly after, many begin lent, looking toward Easter. A great opportunity has been missed to remember St. Patrick. Shrouded in all its superstition and beer drinking, the knowledge of this man's legacy has become secularized. But should it be a secular celebration?
If the Christian community adopted Patrick's attitude, the world would be changed. We'd be the change agents commanded in Scripture to "make disciples." We have a fantastic opportunity to offer the greatest freedoms on this day. When someone says, "Happy St. Patrick's Day!" You and I can turn and respond, "Did you know Patrick was a man who shared the gospel in Ireland, and people were giving their lives to Jesus. May I share that story with you?" Here is a significant opportunity our Government offers to share the gospel in every venue by educating ourselves and others on the history of this man of God.
Talk about "Open doors" - here's one that comes slammed open every year; let's recognize it. Let's turn St. Patrick's Day upside down in our communities. Don't let those in your area of influence think about it the same. Be a change agent, as was he.
