Psalm 2 Déjà vu

Many Christians read this Psalm and quickly look at America and feel a sense of freedom from the anger on the Nation that will face God’s wrath. We forget the way God brought consequences on his people Israel for their debauchery, complacency and dereliction of duty. They were to be a holy Nation. They were to be set apart to be light and salt to the surrounding Nations. They failed, over and again. That sounds like Christians in America in the 21st Century

Christians need to repent, individually, and as the Body, for our complacency. We blame the Leaders, the people, the Democrats, the Republicans. We don’t stop and recognize our responsibility. We have failed our Nation. We point our fingers and mock our Leaders, and that, too, is a sign of our ignorance. We have become the problem.

God‘s discipline will begin in the house of God, not a building but with the individuals that make up the collective Church Body.

God is consistent. Israel, turned its back, many times because of God’s blessings, they forgot Him. Consequences came and those don’t change. Though America isn’t a Christian Nation, its foundation was. We’ve strayed so far, and complacency in Christianity takes responsibility for that to a large degree. Psalm 2 history will repeat, as we grimace in our reading of it.

As I take a deep dive this year in all the prophetic books and just going through Isaiah, only in Chapter 6, I thought it was talking to America. We don’t learn. In our prosperity we forgot God.

In our Christian huddles in a building we forget our responsibility. In our religious gathering, we aren’t spreading and going out nor are we impacting those in our areas of influence for the kingdom.

We’ve become a sinful and debauched Nation, as “Believers”. Oh, please understand God always has a handful of faithful disciples. We need to pray for the Church because this message of Psalm 2 included Israel, God’s own people. We’d be remiss to think we aren’t included in his discipline of our Nation.

Wisdom calls us to use this Psalm as a humble call to repentance on our own behalf. Then prayer:

Lord, we pray that you will work in the Leaders of our Nation. That they will receive instruction. That they would serve you with fear, rejoice and tremble in your presence. I pray all, but if not, many, and if not, some will bow humbly to you and not encounter your Anger. Let them not perish in their blatant sin where your wrath must be kindled. Yet that wrath isn’t long, because your mercies are new. However, we can know, assuredly, those who put their trust in you will be blessed.

This is your will, through your word. We pray, we watch, we wait in your Son’s name. Amen
